The advantages of barbells over dumbbells

The barbell has better stability. Because barbells are controlled by both hands and have fewer movement trajectories, they are more stable than dumbbells. Due to stability, it is easier to control actions. For example, barbell double lift, barbell bow rowing, barbell bench push, and barbell hard pull are all easier to master than the dumbbell version.

Due to its good stability, barbells can use larger loads, such as 50 kilograms, which means they can better accumulate training capacity. By continuously increasing the weight of barbell bars, your muscles gradually receive new stimuli and bear greater loads. This is also an important “progressive overload principle” in fitness (especially muscle building). The larger the load, the better the effect of muscle training.

Especially for thin individuals, if they lack strength in the early stages, the training method of prioritizing strength enhancement through barbells can greatly help with muscle gain and future training.

Dumbbells require a higher level of balance in their movements, and beginners may not be as easy to master as barbells. Especially when dealing with heavy weights, the unstable core can lead to deformation of the movement, so using dumbbells to impact heavy weights (such as tens of kilograms) can easily be restricted. For example, barbells are used instead of dumbbells when performing heavy push ups, hard pulls, and squats.
